Mayor Adhan Warns of the Dangers of Free Association Among Teenagers

The Mayor of Gorontalo, Adhan Dambea, highlighted the increasingly worrying conditions of teenage social interaction in Gorontalo City. This issue has become a serious concern for the local government because it is considered to have an impact on the future of the younger generation.This statement was made by Mayor Adhan during the inauguration of officials which took place in Bandhayo Lo Yiladia (BLY), Friday (8/5/2026).On this occasion, Mayor Adhan reminded educational staff, especially teachers and school principals, to be more active in monitoring the development of students' social environments. He believes that negative influences from the surrounding environment can trigger various social problems among young people.The Mayor also touched on the rise in social interactions that are considered risky for the spread of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS. Therefore, he asked the world of education not to consider this problem as trivial.According to him, schools and parents must strengthen supervision and provide character education to children so that they are not easily influenced by environments that are considered to be detrimental to the morals and future of the younger generation.As a follow-up step, the Gorontalo City Government is said to be preparing a draft regional regulation (Perda) regarding LGBT. This policy, according to Mayor Adhan, is part of the local government's efforts to maintain social order and prevent the risk of spreading infectious diseases in the community.He also asked teachers to continue building communication with students' parents to work together to protect children from risky social environments, while strengthening the values ​​of discipline and character to maintain the dignity of Gorontalo City.
