The visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) in Leato Selatan Village, Dumbo Raya District, Saturday (9/5/2026), created an enthusiastic atmosphere in the coastal area of Gorontalo City. However, the President's visit went beyond simply inaugurating a fishing area. From Gorontalo, Prabowo delivered a powerful message about the future of Indonesia's maritime sector and the importance of fishermen's welfare as a key component of national development.Addressing coastal communities, the President emphasized that the government is promoting the strengthening of the blue economy, a development concept that makes the sea a source of prosperity while maintaining the sustainability of resources."We want all fishermen to have a better life and increase their income," Prabowo said to the residents.According to President Prabowo, fishermen play a strategic role because they provide a source of protein for the Indonesian people. Therefore, the fisheries sector is deemed to receive serious attention from both the central and regional governments."Fishermen produce much-needed protein, not only for Indonesia, but also for the world," he added.Amidst the inauguration agenda, public attention was also drawn to the warm moment between President Prabowo and Gorontalo Mayor Adhan Dambea. The two were seen chatting and shaking hands amicably in the activity area. The atmosphere symbolized the strong synergy between the central and regional governments in promoting coastal development.Behind the grandeur of the Red and White Fisherman's Village that now stands in South Leato, lies a long journey full of challenges. The program, which is part of the National Strategic Project, faced rejection and polemics in society.Even at the beginning of the construction process, the project was halted. However, the Gorontalo City Government chose to continue construction, believing the area would have a significant impact on the fishing community. At that time, Mayor Adhan Dambea decided to maintain the project so that it could be realized and enjoyed by coastal residents. Now, changes are beginning to become visible. The once-controversial fishing areas are slowly growing into new hubs of economic activity. Areas are being better organized, facilities are becoming more complete, and seafood trading activities are becoming more focused.President Prabowo's presence at the location also marked the central government's direct attention to the KNMP development. The Gorontalo City Government itself continues to provide assistance for the development of the area so that the benefits of the program are truly felt by the fishing community in the long term.Closing his remarks, the President reiterated the government's commitment to the welfare of Indonesian fishermen."The government will continue to pay attention to fishermen throughout Indonesia, because they are the backbone of our food supply," President Prabowo emphasized.Today, the Red and White Fishermen's Village in South Leato is not only a new area on the Gorontalo coast, but also a symbol of courage in making decisions for the future of the fishing community.
