History
Boalemo was a kingdom in the seventeenth century before becoming part of Kabupaten Gorontalo.
It separated on 12 October 1999 under UU No. 50/1999, the first of the three splits from the parent regency.
Four years later part of its own territory became Kabupaten Pohuwato.
