About Pohuwato
Pohuwato covers 4,244.31 km², more than twice the area of Kota Gorontalo and Bone Bolango combined, with 161,727 people living in it.
That makes it the emptiest of the six by some distance, and the least represented in this directory so far.
Geography
Pantai Bumbulan lies on its Teluk Tomini coast.
Its corners are marked by Gunung Tentolomatinan in the north and Gunung Sentayu in the west, with Tanjung Panjang at its southern tip.

History
The regency was created on 25 February 2003 under UU No. 6/2003, separated from Boalemo — which had itself only formed in 1999.
Its name was chosen for its history: Pohuwato is the local Gorontalo dialect name for the area.
Under Dutch rule it was known as Paguat and was known for its gold mines.
