At the inauguration of the local ORARI, Mayor Adhan again warned children about the dangers of cell phone use.

Gorontalo Mayor Adhan Dambea has taken firm action against mobile phone use among students. He instructed restrictions on the use of mobile phones (HP) among children as an effort to reduce the negative impact of technology.This policy was conveyed by Mayor Adhan when giving a speech at the inauguration of the Local ORARI management of Boalemoe Regency and North Gorontalo (Gorut), which took place in Bandhayo Lo Yiladia, Monday (5/5/2026).In his direction, Mayor Adhan, who is also the Chairperson of the Regional ORARI of Gorontalo Province, highlighted the increasing number of cases involving teenagers, ranging from sexual harassment to reckless acts of suicide, which he said were inseparable from the influence of negative content on the internet. For this reason, he warned of the potential for the spread of dangerous ideologies targeting the younger generation through digital devices."Cell phone use is very risky. Children can easily access inappropriate content. Therefore, I have asked the Education Office to issue instructions limiting cell phone use for students," he stressed.In addition to the restriction policy, Mayor Adhan also emphasized the importance of parents' role in supervising children's use of technology at home.As an alternative solution, he encouraged ORARI to re-invigorate the use of communication radios or handy talkies (HT) among teenagers. According to him, communication via radio is considered safer because it does not provide potentially damaging visual access.The Mayor hopes that through the involvement of the amateur radio community, the younger generation can be directed towards more positive, educational, and controlled activities, so that they can form better characters in the future.
