The Gorontalo City Government, through the Education and Culture Office, officially opened the 2026 Education Achievement Demonstration Week to commemorate National Education Day (Hardiknas). The opening ceremony was held at the Taruna Remaja Field on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.This activity involved participants from kindergarten, elementary to junior high school levels throughout Gorontalo City, along with teachers, principals, and educational staff. A series of competitions were held as a forum to channel talent and creativity, as well as strengthen the character of students.A number of traditional sports competitions such as tengge-tengge and pondi are known to have started earlier on Monday. Meanwhile, at the opening moment, the committee presented an arts competition that took place in the evening, including a fashion show participated by teachers and a vocal competition participated by school principals.Deputy Mayor of Gorontalo, Indra Gobel, in his remarks emphasized the importance of maintaining and preserving regional culture, especially the Gorontalo language, amidst the development of the times.He appealed to the world of education to take an active role in cultivating the use of regional languages ​​from an early age. According to him, children from kindergarten, elementary school to junior high school need to be accustomed to using the Gorontalo language in their daily lives so that it does not become extinct."We must cultivate the Gorontalo language. Children need to be taught and accustomed to it from an early age to maintain the region's identity," he said.In addition, Deputy Mayor Indra appreciated the Education Office's initiative to highlight cultural elements in educational activities. According to him, education should not only focus on academic aspects, but should also be able to shape a generation that knows, loves, and preserves local culture.
